Vintage Grand Masters (75+)
The first international Vintage Grand Masters hockey match between England and Holland was played at Den Bosch HC, Holland on 12th November, 2013.
An exciting match was played between two teams who individually have played against each other over many years, and therefore the tenor of play was highly competitive but friendly.
The match ended in a win for the England team by 4-1, although Holland had gone into a 1-0 lead. The England party was invited to a dinner in the evening in the Den Bosch clubhouse where the hospitality shown was unforgettable, wives and partners from both sides enjoying a first class 3 course meal.
A plaque was also presented to the England party which John Land accepted and proposed that it should become a trophy to be held by the winning team in all future matches between the Netherlands and England Vintage Grand Masters.
An application has been made to include this in the Guinness Book of Records as the first Men's over 75s international hockey match. Following the standard of this match, the Vintage Masters event in the GM Hockey World Cup in The Hague next June between England, Holland and Australia should produce some exciting hockey!
