In Memoriam Ted Jones, Australia
Ted Jones, the great pioneer of masters hockey, passed away on 9th September, 2016 at his home in Western Australia.
Ted played a major part in promoting masters hockey at all levels throughout the world from the early 1980s. With the help of his influence and guidance, WGMA was officially established in 2002 in Kuala Lumpur. ln 2004 in Athens, when Peter Child was elected as first president of WGMA, Ted continued as Honorary Secretary till 2006, giving major assistance in setting up WGMA's formal Constitution and rules & regulations, which would prove to be an important baseline for our discussions with the lnternational Hockey Federation (FlH), leading to our formal recognition by FIH in 2006. In the same year, WGMA honoured Ted by awarding him Life Membership.
Ted's heart was always in furthering hockey in the world at all levels, and we owe him a great deal of thanks for his pioneering work in furthering masters hockey on a global basis over a quarter of a century.
We, the Board of WGMA, would like to extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family in these sad times.
